Cut glass inkwell, made in France about 1890. This is an interesting
inkwell, and somewhat more decorative than many I have seen, and
owned. The outside of the lower part of the well has groove cut into the
surface, which form a cross on each side, and 4 beveled squares. There
is a chip on one side ,and one in the lip with a closed ended fracture,
which is stable. The lid has 2 rows of 12 beveled facets, a thin row over
a wider row. I have seen this same inkwell in colored glass for $500.00.

Inkwell - pen rack combination. Interesting piece!! I have not
seen this well before and I cannot find it in my inkwell books.
My guess is that it is from sometime between about 1880 to
1920. The glass well is pressed glass and is starting to turn
purple. The glass extends forward to form the font, where you
dip pens into the ink. Unfortunately there is a hinged domed lid,
that is missing the front portion that flipped up. The hinged part
is all there. The base and rack are mad of brass. The base is
weighted with plaster of paris. The base is 5 inches in diameter
and about 1 1/2 inches high. The rack is 3 1/8 inches across The
Height of the stand to the back tip of the rack is 5 1/8 inches.
Because of the missing lid piece I am pricing it at less than half
what I normally would ask for it. I would have kept it for my
own collection, but I'm running out of room for display.

Large cut glass inkwell. I'm not sure of the age of this
inkwell. I would suspect it was made sometime between
about 1870 and 1900. It was definately made for use on a
man's desk. It is very heavy and measures 4 1/8 inches wide,
4 1/2" long and about 3 7/8 inches high. I would estimate it
holds about 4 fluid ounces of ink. The hinged lit and fittings
are brass. The only damage are some slightly flattened
areas in the lid, but they are not bad. I also found one very
miniscule chip on the lower left back corner. The bottom
has normal scratches that you would find on the bottom of
most any old glass piece with a flat surface. All the edges
are beveled. The front has a large groove for a pen rest.
The odd colors in the pictures are reflections from my
scanner. I would classify the overall condition of the piece
as Very Good.
